Shanty Town
It's only a shanty in old Shanty Town,
The roof is so slanty it touches the ground;
But my tumbled-down shack by an old railroad track,
Like a millionaire's mansion is calling me back.
I'd give up a palace if I were a king.
It's more than a palace—it's my everything.
There's a queen waiting there with a silvery crown
In a shanty in old Shanty Town.
There's a shanty in a town on a little plot of ground,
With the green grass growing all around, all around;
With a roof so worn, so badly torn,
That it tumbles on down till it touches the ground.
Just a tumbled-down shack that was built way back,
About twenty-five feet from the railroad track,
Lingers on my mind most all of the time,
Keeps callin' me back to my little old shack.
There's a queen waitin' there in a rockin' chair
With an honest-to-goodness platinum crown.
That's where I'll be found, for that's the place I'm bound;
For I'm gonna go back, got my pack on my back,
Gonna follow the track to the little old shack
In old Shanty Town.
